Bartman Jug
Stock No 3373
A wonderful example of a sixteenth century German stoneware “Bartman Jug” of light biscuit colour, probably Cologne, circa 1525 – 1550. It is typical of the “bellied” form of these early examples with a comparably wide neck. In addition to a wonderful bearded mask applied in relief, it has a central stippled decoration all around the middle. Above and below this central band are applied Romayne heads interspersed with fir trees. Sadly it has lost its handle but the resultant scars have been made-good some time past.
