Roof Boss

English carved Pine Roof Boss, circa 1500. The boss is smothered in foliate decoration and carved with great flair. Usually these Bosses have been sawn off flush, so it is a rare example that demonstrates the roof construction of the period, as it has an L shape cut out to butt up against the main beam, and a cut out on the opposite edge to receive the tenon joint from a cross beam.
