Carved Boss

Extremely rare English Medieval Oak carved boss circa 1250 – 1270. This would originally have been polychromed but there are now only very small traces of paint left. It was probably located on the ceiling of a Church porch. It is carved in “Stiff Leaf” design with simple punching. It has losses to the back and the tips from ancient Death Watch Beetle attack.
