Pair of Carved Figures

Fine pair of English Oak Atlantes, circa 1590, in typical pose with one hand under their cloaks with their opposing hands drawn across for the resulting symmetry. The carving is deeply incised with eight petalled flowers above the gentlemens’ heads, and wonderfully executed grotesque green men below the pedestals. Most probably these were applied decoration to a coffer.
