Extremely rare English carved figure in Yew Wood, of Saint Anthony Abbot. Circa 1450. He is portrayed with the classic symbols of him being old and bearded, wearing a monks cloak and cowl, and carrying a stick like a crutch. He also has his usual attributes of a tau, or Egyptian cross, on his cloak, he holds a sanctified-bell, has the “Fire of St Anthony” at his feet, and is accompanied by a pig. This figure is illustrated in the Antiques Year Book 1956/57.
