Table Box
Stock No 1060
An English Carved Oak table box, circa 1660, of attractive proportions and carving of great charm. Stylistically it is typical of East Devon, and it is possible that it is from the Ottery St Mary workshop.
The carved front depicts a winged Dragon holding a decorated half circle. The front of the plinth has scratch carved denticulated and punched decoration. The iron work is all original with the tinned lock-plate and hasp. Of particular note, the survival of the three light gauge wire hinges is remarkable. Inside is the original prop. There are traces of blue paint, especially where it has been protected by the lock-plate.
